FAQ

Why does the text look garbled?

Text can be saved in different encodings. A file saved in a legacy encoding looks broken when opened as UTF-8, the modern standard.

Can I fix the file permanently?

Yes. Open the file, then choose [Save › Save as MD]. You get a UTF-8 file that displays correctly everywhere.

How do I know which encoding it was?

After opening, the bottom of the page shows the detected encoding, for example “Shift_JIS → converted” or “UTF-8”.
