FAQ

What is an .md file?

A Markdown file is plain text with symbols like # and ** that mark headings and bold text. AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude often answer in this format. In a text editor you see the symbols; here you see a formatted document with headings, tables and lists.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Your file is read and rendered only inside the browser you are using. Nothing is sent to any server, so work documents and private notes are safe to open.

How do I save it as PDF?

Click [Save PDF], then choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog. The fonts, tables and math stay exactly as they look on screen.

The text looks garbled. What happened?

Some older files are saved in a legacy encoding (such as Shift_JIS, GBK or Windows-1252). Paperdown detects this and shows the text correctly.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tap [Choose file] to open an .md file on your phone, or tap [Paste copied text] to open text you copied.
